The garden is set amidst the residential quarters of Agra Fort. It’s an aesthetic, historical gem frequented by tourists to admire its beauty.
Mughal rulers and ladies of the court basked in the aesthetics of the garden during their leisure time. Beyond its visual beauty, Anguri Bagh Agra is also a place of solace. You can almost hear the whispers of royal courtiers and the soft music that once graced its surroundings.
History of Anguri Bagh Agra Fort
Anguri Bagh in Agra was constructed by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in 1637. This garden from paradise was close to the zenana, so the royal women could also socialize in complete privacy. It was built as part of the Khas Mahal, which served as a place of rest for the emperor.
It’s said that the garden once had lush vineyards of the choicest and juiciest grapes. The name itself gives a hint of its lush beauty during the heyday of the Mughal rule.

Architecture of Anguri Bagh
Anguri Bagh is a part of Khas Mahal palace complex. It’s a white marble palace adorned with exquisite, beautiful paintings. Several other two-storey red sandstone structures also surround the garden.
The garden was built in the popular Charbagh style, i.e., it had water channels and pathways dividing it into four equal parts. It’s an example of the meticulous and sophisticated planning of the Mughal artists. You can still feel the regal splendour here and the surrounding palaces.
At present, this beautiful tourist attraction houses around 80 symmetrical gardens. It also has a fountain in the middle, adding to its grandeur.
It acted as a junction where the royal ladies came for leisure strolls. Hammams (bath houses) were built for them on the northeast corner of the garden to ensure complete privacy.
